Heidi Barlow & Shaina Kasztelan

Detroit, MI, USA

Title: Space Cake

Genre: Pop Art

Heidi Barlow is an American artist from Detroit, making work that submerges the viewer into a hyper-feminine alternate universe where cuteness is key, the color pink dominates, and fun is mandatory. Creating paintings, sculptures, installations, and street art, her goal is to transform the environment into a place of comfort and nostalgia. Her life is a 24/7 personal examination of what it means to be a girl in the 21st century.

Shaina Kasztelan is a Detroit artist who graduated with honours from the College for Creative Studies in December of 2012 with a major in Fine Arts and a minor in Ceramics. Her work, varying from painting, sculpture, and functional objects, investigates psychedelic imagery, cyber youth culture, and the act of play. With a feminine colour palette and kaleidoscopic patterns, her chaotic compositions take on the persona of a 90s teen girl on acid.
