Her work is magical; almost celestial in nature. Her use of colour is vibrant to say the least. She is Bárbara Ana Gómez, better known as Barbarana, a Spanish-born Series Three illustrator living in London whose love of whimsy makes her ink on paper explode into fantasy worlds you can’t stop looking at.
Barbarana perfected her artistic skills at London’s University of Arts after completing Creative Photography and Graphic Design courses in Madrid. She is perhaps most famous for her project aptly titled Illustrated Songs, where she transformed her immense love of music into a diverse collection of illustrations. Here, she pictures her favourite lyrics, an obsession that dates back to her childhood doodles.
Gathering inspiration from the likes of Laura Marling, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie, David Bowie, Sigur Rós and Flight of the Conchords, her Illustrated Songs collection is one successful marriage of art + music!
We’re pretty impressed with Barbarana’s talents. And they don’t stop at illustrating special words from special songs. Her other projects include the art for Happy Wednesday, a free UK-based webzine packed with illustration, design and information, and Fancy A Fan, beautifully illustrated fans designed in London by Gomez and Sergio Fernandez (graphic designer & art director in London) then handmade in Spain.
