Billy Moon

Featured Musician

The brainchild of former McMaster student Graham Caldwell, Series Five’s Billy Moon is a surf/garage/pop band that’s been getting a lot of stage time lately (including playing Gladstone Hotel for our Series Five launch party!). Read on to learn more about this garage rock sensation.

Growing up outside of small town Elora, Ontario, Billy Moon’s sound was very much developed out of an ample experience of loneliness. After moving to Hamilton (also our hometown!) and making a couple of bedroom-rock EPs, his music eventually manifested into angst-driven sound that worked. Recorded at Threshold Studios in downtown Hamilton, his latest EP, Young Adult, was released in April 2014.

Songs about porn, chaos and the imagination of childhood make up his latest compilation: a collection of garage rock songs that are both dumb and fuzzy; optimistic and pessimistic. Garnering comparisons to bands from Mac DeMarco to Parquet Courts to Ty Segall, Billy Moon is simply a dude who makes fun, poppy rock songs. And, after finishing a fantastic fall tour that included shows with Nada Surf, Born Ruffians, Beams (also fellow Series Fivers!, Pkew Pkew Pkew and Pet Sun, Billy Moon is SO set to becoming that band you love so much slash hate that others do, too. Whether you’re from #HamOnt or not.
