A sense of play and imagination: That’s the name of Series Three artist, Mark Bird’s game. A freelance illustrator and designer based in Manchester, UK, he often draws inspiration from his own childhood for his works in editorial, children’s books, greeting cards, as well as his own set of light-hearted prints.

Bears, birds, beasts: Mark Bird’s illustrations are a blend of simple shapes and textures that are lovingly crafted, whimsical and imaginative – with a focus on the narrative. In his own words, Bird likes to “provide the viewer with just enough to allow them to create their own stories.” And you can be sure those stories are filled with adventure, fantasy and FUN.

Bird’s passion for art stemmed from a young age. He’d spend hours upon hours drawing and hoping that one day this could be his profession. And so, it is. Perhaps it was this love of doodles as a boy that have helped shape his signature, humorous illustration style.

Over the years, Bird’s illustrations have graced the likes of the Wall Street JournalWhich? MagazineCambridge University PressASDA and Waitrose supermarket chains, HPNHS and the BBC. In addition to producing a new range of greeting cards, he is currently working on his new alphabetized print series ‘Monster Diets’ – a serious and informative insight into the culinary world of monsters.
