Meet the Series 7 Urban Pop Curators!

Since our Series 7 Call for Art has recently closed, it’s time we introduce you to the curators who will be reviewing all of your beautiful submissions! Coming from all areas of the beer, art, music, and culture world, these respected individuals below will lend their trained and acclaimed eyes and ears to help us choose the Series 7 beer label art.

We want to thank everyone who participated in this Call for Art, as well as previous calls, because without you, our vision wouldn’t come to life.  Your support lets us know we’re on the right path to fusing the creativity of craft beer with the incredible works of artists and musicians. Bruno Smoky


brunoThe artist Bruno, also known as “Smoky” dedicated his life to visual art. Since childhood, drawing and creativity was always part of his daily routine. In 2004, he began painting on walls with spray paint in Brasilandia where he grew up, a precarious neighbourhood of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Smoky has gained international and professional recognition through his artistic journeys thoughout Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay, Sweden, USA, England, and Canada. He is always in search of artistic exchanges, learning and teaching art is part of his lifestyle. He has worked in various organizations and NGOs teaching the history of graffiti and its role in society to at-risk youth. He is the coordinator for the Essencia Arts Collective, and a founding member of the Clandestinos Crew. Shalak Attack

shallack“Shalak Attack” is a Canadian-Chilean visual artist dedicated to painting, muralism, spray paint urban art, and canvas art. For over a decade, she has manifested her artistic expression on urban walls across the world. She is a co-founder and co-director of the international art collectives “Essencia”, the “Bruxas”, and the “Clandestinos”. Shalak has participated in numerous artistic projects and exhibitions in Canada, Chile, Brazil, Sweden, Senegal, Palestine, Jordan, Israel, Belgium, Spain, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, USA, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic. Jake Clark


jakeJake Clark is a craft beer addict and consultant, whiskey drinker, food enthusiast, local supporter, music lover, people and art collector, outdoor fanatic and adventure seeker. She works in beer, writes about beer and drinks beer (a lot of it). Jake is also the Chief Beer Officer for Canada Craft Club (, a curated monthly service that delivers some of the best beer in the world, right to your doorstep.

James Livitski

jameJames Livitski is a self-taught graphic designer from Thunder Bay, Ontario who moved to Toronto to pursue his career of graphic design. He creates surreal imagery through a mix of various iPhone apps, Photoshop and Illustrator and has been featured by Instagram and CNN. Career highlights thus far include being selected for Wu-Tang’s ‘A Better Tomorrow’ Canadian album artwork remix, presenting a custom piece to actor Elijah Wood, and starting Somnium Collective, a graphic design business dedicated to creating album artwork for bands and artists with partners from both Toronto and New York City. Knar Bedian


gnarKnar Bedian is the Editor in Chief and co-founder of Sound of Boston, a music publication that covers Boston’s local music scene. As a freelance music journalist and photographer, her work has been published in the likes of Billboard, Gizmodo, Fast Company, NPR, and Wired. Monika Grubizna


monikaMonika Grubizna, a.k.a. Long Muzzle, is a Polish printmaker, illustrator, and dog lover currently residing in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2010, she graduated with honours from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland with an MFA in printmaking. Since then, she has been working as an independent graphic artist and illustrator. Her art is inspired by Polish poster art legacy and Naive art, with lots of rough shapes, bold patterns, and high-contrast colourways. Her works have been presented in many international shows and have received recognition of the Society of Illustrators NYC, American Illustration, 3×3 Professional and Picture Book Shows, and Hiii Illustration (China).

Nigel Newton

nigelNigel Newton is a digital strategist who champions innovation in the marketplace, most recently an independent consultant and Director – Canada for INDE Experience Engineering that provides BroadcastAR and MobileAR solutions.

Nigel introduced AR and interactive print to Canadian mainstream media in 2012 with Layar while leading newspaper advertising innovation projects at Postmedia Digital, a division of Postmedia Network, (Canada’s largest publisher of English language newspapers). This led to the groundbreaking Nissan Canada campaign with Postmedia and the Toronto Star, that won a Media Innovation Award.

His music career began in 1992 as General Manager at Björk’s label in the UK, One Little Indian Records, where he launched “Debut” her first solo album post Sugarcubes. Isabel Ritchie (Izzy)

issyIzzy Ritchie is an accomplished musician and violinist. She spends most of her time playing with The Strumbellas, touring across Canada and around the world.  The Strumbellas were featured on the Series 1 artwork and played the Collective Arts launch party back in 2013.

Raina Douris

rainaRaina Douris is an award-winning radio personality in Toronto. She worked at 102.1 the Edge and CBC Radio 2 & 3, Indie88 and is now currently the Morning Host on CBC Radio 2 Mornings. In 2013, Raina was part of the Indie88 team that launched the new station as music director and afternoon host, and in both 2014 and 2015, was chosen as the Best Radio Personality in Toronto by Now Magazine readers.

  1. Yes, this sure is a worthy cause for Artists and Musicians to display their work on beer cans–what a magnificent idea for all parties concerned–it’s a win-win idea to profit everyone.

    I was invited also–but I’m an Author Artist–I did suggest written work be displayed as well. It would be a good thing to see great poetry on beer cans too–it’s an all round great idea.

    I can see other companies following along to do the same thing.

    This is an idea that will prosper greatly!
