Z’otz* Collective is a group of three artists with Latin American roots: Nahúm Flores (Honduras), Erik Jerezano (Mexico), and Ilyana Martínez (Mexico/Canada). Formed in Toronto in 2004, Z’otz* collaborates on multi-media works, which include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and site–specific drawing installations. All of our pieces are made in true collaboration by six hands, as we rotate the works while creating them, allowing each of us to have input in every piece using watercolour, pencil, ink, charcoal, collage, gouache and ceramics. The works reflect a peculiar style through the language of hybrid beasts, quirky characters, and imaginary spaces. Since 2004 they have exhibited in galleries and artist-run centres across Canada, in the US, Mexico and Europe. They have attended art residencies in Serbia and Croatia. In 2015 Z’otz* created a mural for the PanAm Path in Toronto, coinciding with the PanAm Games. In 2018 they will show ceramic sculptures at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
