Mt. Joy was started by Philadelphia high school friends Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar) and Sam Cooper (guitar). In 2016 the band quietly released their first recordings, including the single “Astrovan” which much to their surprise quickly racked up over 5 million plays on Spotify.
“The irony of ‘Astrovan’ was that song was really about being stuck in a life and wanting to have the opportunity to pursue a dream, and in an instant it gave us that opportunity. ” Quinn says. Soon after, Mt. Joy became their full-time focus. They kept the ball rolling after earning spots on major festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and the Newport Folk Festival.
In March they released their full length debut album, and this June joined us to bring the soundtrack to the inaugural Liquid Art Festival in Hamilton, Ontario.
