Meet the Curators: Series 15

These are the people who volunteered their time (and eyes and expertise) to sift through thousands of submissions from our latest Call for Art to compile what will be our next series of can labels.

JASON BURNSJason Burns was previously a manager at Arts & Crafts in Toronto, ON and is the owner of Burnt Tree Entertainment Inc. Educated in marketing and media communications, Jason spent a number of years drumming while operating a successful and awarded graphic design, marketing, and artist management company in Halifax. He began his career managing Hey Rosetta! which he did for 10 years until their hiatus in late 2017. He currently manages Tim Baker, Choir! Choir! Choir! and others and is proud to call Hamilton, ON home. Jason has sat on the boards of Halifax Pop Explosion, Music Managers Forum of Canada, The Future of Music Coalition, and more.

DIANA CONTRERASDiana Contreras has established herself as an influential Miami artist. From painting murals in the street art scene, to exhibiting in various galleries, her work has been seen in exhibitions and private collections in several parts of the world. Diana’s primary medium is oil yet, she enjoys experimenting with anything she can make a mark with or on; from canvas, to paper, to walls. Her work deals with femininity, set in whimsical portraiture. With a distinct style Diana’s work merges her love of illustration and street art with the classical techniques of the Masters. Diana received her degree. in Art Education and a Post-Graduate of Art in Teaching from Florida International University. She also joined the study abroad program in Florence, Italy. Additionally, Diana enrolled in the Art Students League of New York in New York City.

MAGGE GAGLIARDIMagge Gagliardi is an award winning professional illustrator, designer and commercial artist from Connecticut. She has a BFA in Illustration from Paier College of Art in Hamden, CT and a MFA in Illustration from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. She is an instructor of Digital Illustration at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

AJ KEIRANSAJ Keirans is the Creator and Founder of ‘The 16oz. Canvas – The Art of Craft Beer’ podcast, which he founded in 2016. The project focuses on the artists and designers who help bring your favorites beers and breweries to life. An award-winning radio personality, AJ has interviewed over 130+ artists in over 12 countries, representing over 175 different breweries around the world including several Collective Arts alumni. At the end of September, AJ will be presenting a unique event called ‘The Art of Craft Beer: HUBBUB’ in Bridgton, Maine which will look to flip the traditional beer event on its head with the artists and their works on and off the can being the primary focus while being supported by live music, local food vendors and the breweries supporting these artists.

SANDY PELLSandy Pell is a commercial mural artist and partner working under the name PELLVETICA, alongside her husband, Steve Pell. On a mission to paint the world, the two specialize in turning blank spaces into interactive, memorable places. Recently, PELLVETICA collaborated with Collective Arts for Series 11, the Grizzly Bear. In 2016, both Sandy and Steve were acknowledged as two of the Top 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide by Lürzer’s Archive, the creative resource for illustration professionals. This past August, PELLVETICA also hosted two days of Adobe Live, a broadcasted series where they taught thousands of creative professionals around the world how they go about the mural-making process. PELLVETICA has collaborated with numerous global brands including Google, Boeing, Hootsuite, Free People, City of Vancouver, Royal Canadian Mint, Ideon Agency New York, L.A Care Health Plan, Clearly, and many others.
