Mikey Lavi is the artist behind the cans for our debut lineup of Audio/Visual Lager. Mikey listened to each Audio/Visual band and created pieces that reflected his impressions. Together the bands – Ashe, Hinds, Raffaella and Sunflower Bean -, Mom and Pop Records, and Mikey created four unique labels.
Mikey has been deep into music since his teens; learning guitar, playing in bands, writing, staring at album art, digging through liner notes, watching music videos and trying to understand the meaning of his favorite albums through the words and visuals that accompanied the sounds.
Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Mikey now calls Vermont his home where he is a designer at Solidarity of Unbridled Labour and helps run the non-profit screenprint studio, the Iskra Print Collective. Iskra is a non-profit screenprint studio where Mikey does all his printing. As a volunteer he helps teach classes, organize events and run the auto-press which is used almost exclusively for local gig posters.
Printing is generally limited to 2-3 colors, which Mikey finds forces him to simplify ideas and get the most out of the paper and color interactions. The demanding nature of screenprinting has helped build patience and serves as a reminder that good work takes time.
Relationships are Mikey’s number one influence. He believes the people you surround yourself with have a huge role in your motivation and output. They keep you open-minded and honest, but most importantly help take the seriousness out of things. They make us accountable for getting things done, showing up and pushing past our false limitations.
