Tim Barnard is a renowned now living in B.C. artist/muralist who grew up in Alberta. His work is full of hard edge, black and white art that he’s adopted from his Western North American frontier lifestyle. Keep reading for more incredible work from our Series Four artist.
Tim’s artistic skills are no happy accident. He worked in the tattoo and multi-media industries in California before moving back to AB to hone his talents through a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree for drawing at the Alberta College of Art and Design. He then went on to complete the Ellen Battel Stoeckel Scholarship Program for painting at Yale University. From that point, Tim’s extensive travels began: He went on to live and work in the Yukon, Mexico, Calgary, Montreal and New York in the last decade, producing some stunning fine art and illustrations, as well as murals for retail spaces, offices, private homes and restaurants, like Gastown’s Bao Down, where Tim was enlisted to create a custom Ninja Mural, a black and white depiction that pays tribute to 90s martial arts posters.
That B&W artwork of his can be seen throughout his portfolio, and really speaks to his influences of contemporary art, historical muralism, psychedelic comics and old school punk and skateboard graphics. Tim brings this style to his other projects, like being the co-founder of the EN MASSE project, created along side Jason Botkin at the Galerie Pangée in 2009.
